What information do I need to do a search?
The only information required for a Basic SafeDate search is a person’s first name, last name, current city and state of residence and date of birth. If you know cities or addresses where your date has lived previously, that information is helpful for conducting additional criminal checks. If you know the person’s social security number, we can conduct an additional ID verification check and a previous address verification. The more you tell us, the deeper we can dig.
Where does SafeDate search?
Every SafeDate search uses the largest and most thorough national criminal and sex offender database available to cross-reference the subject’s name against over 125 million records. Depending on which search you select, we also research the subject’s current county of residence for any felonies or misdemeanors. With our most advanced search, the Due Diligence SafeDate Criminal Search, a SafeDate investigator conduct phone calls and “ground level” research to get the full story on your date. If your prospective date has a nationally searchable criminal record or a local conviction, SafeDate will find it.
Will my potential date know if I check his or her background?
With the Basic SafeDate search, the subject won’t ever know you have performed a background check on them. Some searches, such as those using a Social Security number to check a credit rating, could be detected through a credit reporting agency, but the subject would never know who had issued the search. You are always anonymous.
What sets SafeDate.com apart from other screening services?
Unlike searches from our competitors, a check from SafeDate.com will always include research in the same jurisdiction in which the subject currently resides. Criminal records always originate in the subject’s county; therefore it is paramount to provide a hand search at the county level.
Do you keep all of my information private?
As a proud provider of public record information for over 10 years, the SafeDate team understands the importance of protecting our clients. With SafeDate, your information will only be used for the research you have requested. This information will not be accessible to any other entities for any other purposes. Please read our Privacy Statement for more information.
I want someone checked, but I don’t want to pay. What should I do?
We have a button on our main menu bar called “Send a Safe Date Request.” You provide your potential date’s email address, and our system will notify them that you are requesting they log on and complete a SafeDate check on themselves. After your date logs on, pays for a check and provides his or her information, he or she will get to choose who receives their completed report. They can choose to send you the report immediately, or wait and review it themselves before sharing it. When the report is complete they will receive an email notification with their SafeDate Number, which is used to access the results of their background check.
How do I know if I should do a more detailed background search?
Follow your gut instinct. In many cases, a Basic SafeDate search will give you the confidence that your potential date checks out. But if you received negative results from a Basic SafeDate search, or you have a feeling that something isn’t adding up, a more detailed search might be in order. Remember - the more you know, the better your decisions can be.
Why would I want to check my own background?
It’s an unfortunate truth that the world of online dating is full of misrepresentation and scams. Conducting a self-check is a great way to show prospective dates that you don’t have anything to hide. When you become a member of SafeDate, you get a report number to post on your online profile page or to share with people when you chat. It’s an easy way to make a better first impression. And it’s easier to ask your prospective dates to get a self-check if you’ve already got one!
How do I handle a negative search?
If the results from a SafeDate search return any criminal records, we will provide you with the date of the offense, the type of offense and the final disposition (the result). What you do with this information is completely up to you. The SafeDate customer service team is available to answer any questions or recommend additional research that might be helpful. We are also available to talk to your potential date, if needed.
